You can have a healthy smile that can last a lifetime with the proper care. A simple routine of daily brushing and cleaning between teeth, good eating habits and regular dental check-ups can help prevent most dental problems.

Most people know that tooth decay can lead to tooth loss if left untreated. But, it may surprise you to know that for adults it is periodontal (gum) disease that is the major cause of tooth loss.

The warning signs of periodontal disease include:
• gums that bleed easy
• red, tender, swollen gums
• gums that have pulled away from teeth
• persistant bad breath or bad taste
• loose or separating permanent teeth

If you notice any of these signs you should see a dentist immediately. The dental team can treat gum disease and decay but good dental health begins with you.

Brush thoroughly with a fluoridated toothpaste at least twice daily. It is best to brush after each meal or snack.

Clean between teeth daily with dental floss.

Eat a well-balanced diet. Limit between meal snacks.

Schedule regular dental check ups. Most people should see their dentist & hygienist twice yearly. Regular professional teeth cleaning is an important part of maintaining a healthy smile.
